Biographical Text

Crawshaw was stationed at Topsham Barracks with the Royal Artillery in 1919 and played a few matches as an amateur for Exeter City.

On leaving the forces he signed professional forms for the Grecians and made his Southern League debut, going on to appear 28 Division Three matches.

He turned north to sign for Accrington Stanley in 1921 where he added a further 59 Division Three North appearances in two seasons.

Crawshaw was back at Exeter for a second spell with the club for the 1923-24 season but he only featured in a further 11 league matches, before joining Taunton United in the summer of 1925.

Elected as chairman of the Grecians Association in June 1948, he was appointed to the Exeter City board of directors in February 1954, later becoming vice-chairman, resigning in 1961.
He also ran a building company based in Heavitree, Exeter

A person who was enthusiastic for different sports, he was at one time captain and president of the Exeter Golf and Country Club.

Billy Crawshaw died in September 1963.
