Bees' Gallant Fight: Exeter Now Fifth
Hendren Misses the Train
CITY V BRENTFORD:
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 16TH
City 1 Brentford 0.
With Brentford at the foot of the League table, it was thought that the City would secure an easy victory in to-day's Southern League fixture at St. James's Park.
However, the game never reached a high standard, and Exeter were made to fight desperately hard for their two points. The City's excellent form in recent matches has attracted a lot of local interest, and there was a good "gate", with upwards of five thousand people in the ground at the start. Teams:
CITY: Pym Fort Hurst Rigby Pratt Lockett Whittaker Cooper Rutter Crompton Ives
Referee:- Mr W.E.Russell, of Swindon.
Hendren McTavish Smith Chapple Brawn Richards Bentley Barclay Spratt Rhodes Price
BRENTFORD:
Brentford put up a gallant fight. They had to start with only ten players, Hendren having missed the train from London, but he arrived after play had been in progress twenty minutes. Before Hendren's arrival Exeter City had obtained their one and only goal. There were thrills before this, however, Crompton and Rutter both missing goals from a few yards' range. The Exeter goal was in danger from a free-kick, but Fort headed the ball clear.
Crompton then secured the ball in his own half of the field, and racing past the Brentford defence shot hard and low from a distance of twenty yards. Price dived for the ball, which hit the base of one of the goalposts and glanced into the net. The City subsequently fell away, and Pym was given plenty to do in numerous Brentford attacks. The second half was scrappy in the extreme. Price saved well from Ives, and Whittaker shot against the post with Price yards out of his goal. Brentford were seldom dangerous in this half, but the City found the task of increasing their lead too much for them.
Last season: City 1 Brentford 0.
In 1910-11: City o Brentford 0.
Comments: Brentford put up a plucky fight at St. James's Park, and Exeter had to struggle for their two points. This was more especially so before the interval, and considering that Hendren did not arrive to complete the team until twenty minutes of the match had been played, Brentford could claim to be unlucky. The City have not yet been defeated at St. James's Park this season, and by virtue of today's victory are now fifth.

Torpoint v City Reserves.
Although the Reserves were the first to score they were beaten in the end by the odd goal in five. Addicott opened for them in the first half, Pound and Fodel then securing the lead for the home side. In the second half Clarke scored a clever goal to put the City back on terms, but Torpoint got the winning goal just before the close.
Exeter City: -Chapman; Morris, Bassett; Clarke, Lagan, Mullineux; Addicott, Lewis, Brooksbank, Golightly, and Garside.
