Millwall-Away
Plymouth and District League
Sherwood Foresters (h)
Exeter in the "Lions'" Den:
MILLWALL v CITY:
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23RD
Millwall 1 Exeter City 0.
Lipsham was unable to turn out for Millwall, being indisposed, and C.H.Conn, an amateur from Catford Southend, deputised. Exeter fielded their usual team. Millwall's victory today takes them above Exeter City in the League table. Both clubs share the same number of points, but the "Lions" have the advantage on goal average. Teams:
MILLWALL:
Spendiff Kirkwood Jeffrey Voisey Wilson Liddell Brown Vincent Davis Moody Conn
Referee:- Mr W. Teaks, of Lincoln.
Ives Crompton Rutter Cooper Whittaker Lockett Pratt Rigby Hurst Fort Pym
CITY:
The Millwall forwards put up their most unconvincing display seen at New Cross this season. The only goal of the match was scored inside the first half hour, when the opportunist quality of Davis enabled him to get the point with a swift surprise shot from long range. Generally speaking, he was watched too closely by Pratt to exert his strong individuality, but the exception won the points, and enabled him to score his ninth goal of the cam paign.
Flattered to Deceive.
Exeter began so well on the right wing that it looked as if they would improve very moderate goal average, but after this bright start they flattered to deceive, and it would be very difficult to say which of the two sets of forwards gave the most disappointment to the crowd of over 15,000 spectators.
Crompton got in one very good shot during the course of the game, but he seemed to lack his usual pace, and was more like a fourth half-back than an inside-forward. Neither goalkeeper had many troublesome shots to deal with.
Last season: Millwall 5 City 0.
In 1910-11: Millwall 3 City 1.
