STOKE V CITY: SATURDAY DECEMBER 21ST

Exeter Repeat Last Year's Win in the Potteries

City 2 Stoke 0.

Stoke's unsatisfactory form of the last two months has had an adverse effect on the "gates" at the Victoria Ground, and for the visit of Exeter City the terraces and stands were very thinly populated. The display of the Potters against Exeter City, who repeated their triumph of last season on the same ground, was not calculated to arouse much enthusiasm, for it was the most feeble display Stoke have given at home in the past two seasons.

The City, who have only lost twice since the end of September, introduced Lagan for Pratt (injured) at centre-half, and Rutter, now fit, returned to lead the forwards.
Teams:
STOKE
Gadsden
Smart Turner
Baddeley Jones Hodkin
Revill Smith Tempest Lenaghan Hardman

Referee: Mr A. Adams, of Nottingham. Linesmen: Messrs J.T.Durness and A.Edwards.

Ives Crompton Rutter Cooper Whittaker
Lockett Lagan Rigby
Hurst Fort
Pym
CITY

Although the Potters had a strong breeze behind them in the first half they could make little headway. They had the best of the early exchanges in the field, but their shooting carried no sting, and Pym smartly saved their only shot of a strong nature, from Lenaghan, On the contrary, the well conceived attacks of the City were continually dangerous, and their success was well merited when, at the end of twenty minutes' play Crompton fastened on to the ball from a return by Turner and scored a fine goal.
Half-time: City 1 goal Stoke nil.

Exeter City commenced the second half in spirited style, and after twelve minutes Rigby shot through a crowded goalmouth into the net, Gadsden being un sighted. Stoke were rarely dangerous, but in one breakthrough Revill struck the crossbar, and Pym, who had run out almost as far as the 18-yards line, turned round and caught the ball as it re bounded. Unfortunately Crompton sustained a fractured collar bone when he overbalanced in the act of shooting, and fell on his right shoulder.
Last season: City 3 Stoke 1.
In 1910-11: No match.
