City's Strange Fade Out
DRAW WITH COLCHESTER
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 25TH:
DRAW WITH COLCHESTER
Exeter City's fade out was inexplicable. After a hectic and storming first 15 minutes they lost the iniative quite completely and deserved no more than a point against the moderate Colchester United team at St James's Park. In two minutes the City were a goal ahead through Frank Houghton, his second in two matches. Colchester's first equalising goal in the 16th minute, by Leonard, was due to bad defensive covering. The next defensive blunder was at the other end of the field, and it resulted in Ellaway getting another goal for the City. Far from being inspired Exeter deteriorated badly, and the United were level again when Grice beat Kelly. Exeter, although unlucky to have been denied a penalty when Ellaway was sent headlong in the final stages, could not complain about the
result.
