EXETER CITY FORWARDS POOR IN MATCH AT ALDERSHOT

Good Friday Football, April 8th:
Apart from their two second half goals the City forwards gave a poor showing at Aldershot. They must have missed nearly a dozen easy goals against an unsteady defence. John and Murphy were the chief offenders.

ALDERSHOT: Brown; Monk, Banks; Alison, Billington, Lacey; J.Gaynor, L. Gaynor, McCulloch, Menzies, and Flint.

EXETER CITY:- Bell; B.Doyle, Douglass; Dunne, Harvey, Mitchell; Thomas, Houghton, John, Murphy, and McClelland.

Aldershot, with fewer chances, made better use of the ones they did get and snatched victory by scoring twice in the last six minutes. The only goal in the first half came from a penalty for hands given against Mitchell, and Billington netted the spot-kick. Menzies scored Aldershot second goal four minutes after the teams had crossed over, but Houghton and Thomas in the 75th and 85th minutes respectively put the City back on terms. Aldershot piled on the pressure near the end and gave the Exeter rear guard a gruelling time. Flint scored Aldershot's two last goals following a reshuffle of the forward line in which Flint changed places with McCulloch.
Final: Aldershot 4 Exeter City 2.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE
RESERVES WIN AT CHELMSFORD.

At Chelmsford Exeter City Reserves without too much undue exertion accounted for the Essex team by four goals to two, and Chelmsford were fortunate to escape so lightly. After 16 minutes Donaldson, who had a hand in three of Exeter's goals, sent Priestley away and the left-winger opened the scoring. With half an hour gone Donaldson started the move when ended when the outside right scored number two. Two minutes later Burdon replied for Chelmsford. Then, five minutes after the interval, Priestley dribbled half the length of the field to score a brilliant goal. Eleven minutes later Mackay got the fourth goal. Burdon scored again for the home side after Kelly, whose dominating influence all round the penalty area appeared to over-awe the home forwards, had twice punched the ball out.
Final:-
Chelmsford 2 City Reserves 4.
