111TH BATTERY R.F.A. v EXETER CITY.

Saturday, October 15th.

Exeter City sent a powerful team to the Barracks this afternoon to try conclusions with the 111th Battery. Keech made his first appearance in the combination, and the Rev Reid, the City's crack centre, again led the attack. The sides were about equal in the opening phase of the game, but the rough tactics of the Battery were not to the liking of the spectators, and there were cries of "Play the game Battery" and "Keep your eye on the tripping ref."

Horner and Morgan eventually took the ball well up the field and transferred to Keech, who fed Reid, but that player shot wide. Securing the ball a few minutes later Reid put in a long, high shot which beat the goalie.Play warmed up, and Reid scored again after displaying some of his pretty footwork near the posts.

SECOND HALF.

The City, leading by two goals to nil, pressed at the re-start, and despite the fouling tactics of the soldiers, maintained the position of being the better team, despite having Davidson and Horner both injured by kicks by the same Battery forward. There was an excitable demonstration on the part of the spectators, who demanded the referee (Mr E.Hill) to order the defaulting soldier off the field. The referee yielded, and amid applause ordered the man off, and after a few minutes Horner returned. Reid scored two more goals for Exeter, and the City's followers cheered heartily.

The play of the Artillery became even more questionable and the dimunitive Sellick was the victim of a deliberate foul. Reid came into contact with a Bombardier, the latter, by way of a change, being knocked out. Reid then scored again, bringing the City's total up to five. The final result was

Exeter City 5 (Reid 5),
111th Battery 1.
