Wednesday, December 7th.
Played at St James's Park, Exeter, this afternoon. The visitors brought a good team, and Light (Belmont) strengthened it quite considerably. Sturge, the Exmouth goalkeeper, was in remarkable form, and it was a perfect treat to watch him play. Exmouth kicked off and were soon on the attack, but a long kick by Davidson transferred play to the other end. Exmouth returned and Kingdon put in a hard shot, but it was a long way wide. Eveleigh made a long run and scored the first goal for Exeter. Play was in midfield when half-time was called, the score then being
Exeter City 1 Exmouth United 0.
On the re-start Exeter were awarded a free kick. Ashford took it and scored with a beautiful shot out of the goalkeeper's reach. Budden, who was playing a good game for Exmouth, managed to net the ball with a fine hard shot. Kingdon then scored for Exmouth, and with the game equal a fine struggle was witnessed. Sellick, receiving a beautiful pass from Eveleigh, beat Sturge with a terrific shot, and a good game ended with the score:
Exeter City 3, Exmouth United 2.
