East Devon v Dorset &
Cornwall v Devon

CORNWALL v DEVON.

Saturday, January 14th.

These county teams met at Truro today in the presence of a poor "gate." The weather was dry and cold, with a strong east wind blowing. Cornwall won the toss, Devon kicking off against the wind. Wilton, Prideaux, and Bampfield were prominent for Cornwall and gave the Devon goalkeeper plenty of work, but no goals resulted nevertheless, despite all the pressing. It was expected that after the change of ends Devon would pile up a big score. The play was often in Cornwall's territory, and shots at goal were frequent, but Palmer was equal to the demands made upon him, and as in the first half, nothing was scored.

Result: Cornwall 0 Devon 0.

EAST DEVON v DORSET.

A well-balanced side was put out by East Devon to play Dorset at the County Ground, Exeter, this afternoon. The Rev. Reid, of Exeter City, was selected at inside-left, and some doubt was aroused by the selectors' decision to play Smith (R.F.A.) at outside-right in preference of little Jimmy Sellick, who is now playing at the top of his form, and is fit for any company. The match was drawn, one all, both goals being obtained in the first half, Smith scoring for East Devon just on half-time.

Notes on the Game.

It was well fought, clean, fast, and lively, and the feature of the Devon play was the form of Reid and Massey, in the forward line. White, of Torquay United, was hardly a success at centre forward, however. The visitors were individually good, and they had quite as much of the game as the Devonians. Taken all round, a drawn game was a fair result.

  • THE EAST DEVON CUP.
At a special meeting of the East Devon Football Association on Friday a draw was made for the East Devon Challenge Cup, which was presented by the late Mr H.A.Willey. The first round will be played on Saturday, January 28th, when Exeter City will play Belmont, at St James's Park.
