Match 24
18th February 1905
Training College (St Luke’s) v Exeter City

TRAINING COLLEGE (ST LUKE'S) v EXETER CITY.

Saturday, February 18th.

This afternoon Exeter City played their first League match at Magdalen Road against the College. The ground was in a fairly good condition, and there was a large crowd of spectators. The College are not doing very well this season, their position in the League being very poor, whilst the City occupy first place.

The City put out what was their best possible team, Eveleigh having left the town, and his place was filled by Russell and Coles (who played for Exeter when they were the United) came in at outside-left.

Exeter City:- Peters; Ashford, Horner; Wallage, Davidson, Morgan; Sellick, Thomas, Reid, Russell, Coles.

A strong wind blew across the field, and this tended to lessen the effects of combination and passing. Coles got going on the left but put the ball over the bar. The College forwards then went down the field, but Ashford was on hand and cleared with a long kick. The City tried hard to score, but failed to do so up to the interval, when the register was blank. Shortly after the change of ends Reid placed Exeter ahead with a penalty kick, awarded for a foul on himself. Thomas scored Exeter's second goal with a grand shot which the College goalkeeper knew nothing about. After Peters had fallen full length across his goal to save a shot from one of the home forwards Exeter broke away. Sellick took the ball almost to the bye-line and passed to Reid, who scored the third goal. Result:- City 3 Training College 0.
