Match 30
1st April 1905
Senior League
Exeter City v Dawlish

SENIOR LEAGUE:
CITY V DAWLISH.

Saturday, April 1st.

With Reid, Davidson and Sellick all away at Clevedon assisting Devon County, Exeter City were not greatly fancied to win the Senior League match against Dawlish at St James's Park, on the above date. Although the seasiders were without Pedrick, they were thought to have a very good chance of annexing two League points, and this is precisely what they did, by four goals to two. There were four hundred onlookers. Dawlish took the lead after ten minutes, L.Turner scoring with a shot that was too hot for Peters to hold, and when a penalty was given against Horner for handling, the place kick was sent unaccountably wide.

C.Holman obtained the second point for Dawlish, Peters making no apparent effort to save, but after 20 minutes Russell reduced the deficit with a penalty kick, awarded for a foul on Wells almost in the goalmouth. Turner scored another goal for the visitors a minute before half-time, when the state of the game was
Dawlish 3 Exeter City 1.

The City changed their team in the second half, Horner going up to the forward line, with Wells and Bailey at full-back. In one of Dawlish's vigorous attacks Bailey was laid out with an ankle injury. The City's play was deplorable by their normal St James's Park standards, being merely "kick and follow up." Turner scored for Dawlish, thereby doing the "hat-trick," and in the last five minutes Thomas got a goal for Exeter.

Exeter City:- Peters; Horner, Fenwick; Wallage, Bailey, Morgan; Wells, Russell, Campbell, Thomas, and Henderson.
