EAST DEVON CUP.
NEWTON TOWN DEFEAT THE 111TH IN THE FINAL.

In weather more suitable for cricket than football the two Cup Finalists, Newton and the 111th Battery, met at the ground of the Exeter Rugby Club, St Thomas's, on Saturday, April 29th, before a crowd of 2,500 spectators.

There was loud cheering as the Battery took the field, closely followed by Newton. Mr F.J.Harvey was the referee. Messrs Hill and Dennis were the linesmen.

The first half, during which Newton scored twice, was keenly contested, but a third goal to the Newtonians shortly after the interval more or less settled the destination of the Cup. The Battery team were very poor during the final half an hour, and Newton scored two more goals to win in the end by 5 - nil. Sir Robert Newman subsequently handed the East Devon Cup to the winners amid much enthusiasm. It will be remembered that Exeter City were surprisingly beaten by Newton in the semi-final by 2 goals (Tully and Stride) to 1 (Reid) at Dawlish on a wet afternoon. In the other semi-final the 111th Battery beat the 112th by 3-2 at St James's Park.
