Exeter City v 112th Battery

EXETER CITY v 112TH BATTERY R.F.A.

These were old rivals at St James's Park today, September 23rd, in a "friendly," before two thousand spectators. The Rev. Phillip Williams, president of the City club, kicked off for the Battery, who played downhill. The teams:-
Exeter City. Sturge; W. Wells, Clarke; Fenwick, Davidson, Morgan; Sellick, Thomas, Reid, Andrews, Russell.

112th Battery. Steele; Hill, Hunter; Ruddigan, Richardson, Brown; Thorburn, Pullitt, Wilson, Lovell, Hunter.
Referee:- Mr W. Bastin.

Russell got clear away on the left for the City, but Thomas, who accepted the centre, missed an open goal. Sellick centred weakly when in a good position, and the Soldiers took the play to Exeter's end but sent behind. Reid beat the field from the kick out, but failing to steady himself, shot wildly with only Steele to beat. The City were the first to score, but the goal was a gift. The ball was sent across by Reid, and rebounded off Hunter. Steele, the veteran goalkeeper, endeavouring to save, fell with the ball into the net. The City scored a second goal from a free kick, both Reid and Sellick having a hand in it after the ball had hit the post. Thomas scored a third goal for Exeter, and the Battery scored one goal in the second half.

Result: City 3 R.F.A. 1.
