ESSA V EXETER CITY:
PLYMOUTH AND DISTRICT LEAGUE.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 14TH.
This match was played at Rood's Barn, Saltash. Essa won the toss and played uphill in the first half.
Essa: Winter; LeGolley, Batten; Goodsell, Ough, Coakley; Hancock, Kitto, Dunavon, Fraser, Bateman.
City: Sturge; W. Wells, Clarke; Morgan, Davidson, Fenwick; Sellick, Kendrick, Reid, Andrews, Russell.
Play ruled even for some time. Then Essa forced two corners in quick succession but nothing came of them. Numerous chances were missed by both sides, and several moves were spoiled by offside.
Half-time: No score.
On resuming Russell took the ball up the field and got a corner but as usual nothing resulted. Winter stopped two shots from Reid, and from a third he fell on the ground with the ball. In a melee the referee gave foul a against the City for kicking him, and the game had to be halted for a minute while the goalkeeper received attention. Directly afterwards Fenwick took a pot shot and scored for the City. Good sell was kicked and had to retire. Just a few seconds before the final whistle went Winter made a weak attempt at a save and Sellick headed a second goal for the City, who won by two goals to nil.
