Match 07
28th October 1905
East Devon Senior League
Newton Town (h)
Exeter City Reserves v Newton Town
EAST DEVON SENIOR LEAGUE.
28th October 1905
Exeter City Reserves played Newton Town today, October 28th, in a Senior League fixture at St James's Park. The Reserves were assisted by Wells, of the senior team.
Newton opened the game with the wind in their favour, but the City forwards came away and West tested Dawe, a performance that Paddon repeated just afterwards. Then Newton looked to have a certain goal. Vicary outpaced the field but Robinson fell on the ball and prevented his attempt at shooting, at the expense of a corner.
Exeter Get a Penalty.
Stride kept the City forwards at a safe distance. The City were awarded a penalty following a melee in the visiting goalmouth, Jeanes being adjudged to have fouled Veale, a decision which was not appreciated by Newton. A penalty it was, however, and Wells junior made no mistake with the kick. Newton forced a corner, which Webb put over the bar. Play until the interval favoured Newton, although they lost another goal. In the second half the visitors scored once, and the result at the finish was:-
Exeter City Reserves 2
Newton Town 1.
