Friendly
112th Battery (a)

112TH BATTERY R.F.A. v EXETER CITY.

Saturday, November 11th.

This match, a "friendly," was played at the Camp Field in heavy rain. The Battery kicked off, and in the first minute obtained what was a very doubtful goal, the ball appearing to go through a hole in the side of the net. The City had hard lines from the restart, Sellick missing by a few inches only. The opening quarter of an hour favoured the Battery, the absence of Reid and Davidson being badly felt by Exeter. Football was out of the question and the game was very largely a matter of long kicks, accompanied by much mud slush, and Wilson scored for the Battery, and Sturge saved a penalty kick given against Wells.

Result:
112th Battery 3 Exeter City 2.

The encounter between Exeter City and 112th Battery, although only a friendly, at tracted much attention. Considerable rivalry exists between the two teams. The weather was very favourable, but, not- withstanding, there was a good turn out of spectators. The Battery have al- ready this season suffered defeat by the City, but on Saturday they made amends. and rotired victors by three goals to two. The conditions were entirely against good football. The field was very greasy, and the endurance and stamina of the players were severely tested. In mitigation of sheir defeat the City can claim that they were not at full strength. They were with- out Davidson, their centre half. Fenwick, their right wing, and Reid. who is a strong player. Play was pretty evenly balanced, and drawn game should have been the result, the referee allowing the Battery a goal which was obtained through a hole in the side net. At half- time the City led by two goals to one, they. if anything, having monopolised most of the play up to that stage. But in the second half they fell away. The soldiers soon equalised. About five minutes from time they scored again, and were pressing vigorously when time was called. soldiers played a rather effective game. and one suited to the conditions of the ground. They indulged in long passing, and foilowed that up with dangerous shots at goal. Throughout they played a hard game. Their most prominent man was Wilson, who hails from Glasgow. He plays inside left, and is certainly a very promising player. On the next occasion on which the teams meet it is to be hoped the weather will be more agreeable,
