Plymouth Argyle Reserves (h)

EXETER CITY v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE RESERVES.

Saturday, December 2nd.

Exeter City were at home today to the Argyle Reserves in the Plymouth and District League. Great interest was taken in this game, more especially as it was the first time that Exeter had entertained a professional team at St James's Park. Earlier in the season at Plymouth the professionals defeated the Grecians by six goals to nil. The teams took the field to day before a crowd of two thousand spectators. Exeter City at the last moment included Robinson in goal in place of Sturge. Plymouth Argyle included seven professionals in their team. The Argyle captain won the toss and Exeter kicked off towards the St James's Road end. The sides were: -
EXETER CITY:- Robinson Keech W.Wells Morgan Davidson Brooks Sellick Thomas Reid Andrews Russell

Referee: Sergeant-major Adams.

Crocker Bauchop Burch Godley Peard Banks Mortimer Tapson
McNiel Cudlipp
Horne
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE RESERVES

The Argyle forced play to the Exeter end and Crocker shot just wide of the near upright. minute later Tapson put in a shot which was too straight, Robinson saving. When Exeter got away Andrews was pulled up for offside. Horne saved from Andrews at full length on the ground, and with the goal empty Sellick wasted a glorious chance by shooting over the crossbar. The Argyle continued to do most of the pressing, Wells and Keech being kept busy. Bauchop opened the scoring, beating Robinson with a high shot from 25 yards' range. Horne saved grandly from Thomas, and at the other end Bauchop struck the crossbar. The Exeter forwards occasionally got away, but there was no sting in their attacks. Reid missed a simple chance, and just on half-time Sellick equalised. The Argyle opened well in the second half, but Burch was guilty of missing several chances. Bauchop, however, put Argyle ahead, and Burch increased the lead with a high shot in the top corner which gave Robinson no chance whatever.

Exeter Simply Caved In.

Mortimer with another stinging high shot added goal number four, and Exeter City, just as they did at Home Park, simply caved in, leaving the Argyle with the field practically to themselves.
At the conclusion the score was:
Argyle Reserves 4 Exeter City 1.
