Match 12
9th December 1905
Friendly
Exeter City v East Devon League X1
EXETER CITY V EAST DEVON LEAGUE.
Saturday, December 9th.
For the benefit of the funds of the East Devon League, today's friendly match was arranged at St James's Park, Exeter. There were 1,500 spectators present. The City, who were represented by their best team, played up the slope with the sun at their backs in the first half. In this half the exchanges were even, both sets of forwards in turn getting away, but finding their downfall in the finishing touches. Pragnell opened the score for the League team, Massey adding a second goal. The East Devon team played with a better understanding than the City, and after the first twenty minutes held the upper hand. Keech ended a nice movement for the City by shooting too high, a performance which he repeated a minute later. Turner, Feldgate and Massey scored for East Devon, who led at the interval by five goals to nil. Daw saved from Russell and Brooks and Massey missed a glorious chance right in front of the City goalposts. Brooks eventually scored for Exeter with a beautiful low shot, but East Devon continued to be the better side, and just before the end Pragnell scored their sixth goal.
