EXETER CITY v ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY.

Saturday, December 23rd.

Exeter City fielded a weak team at St James's Park against the Combined Batteries this afternoon, but were nevertheless the first to press. However, it was the Soldiers who scored, Kearley heading into the net after Wilson had hit the crossbar. Davidson gave away a corner, and from the place kick Wilson scored a second goal for the Artillery. Andrews wasted a good chance for Exeter. Andrews opened up the game on the left in fine style, and the goal which followed was the best seen on the ground for a long time. Russell centred from Andrews's pass and Thomas shot, the ball going straight to Steele, who punched out only for Thomas to jump up and find the net with a beautiful header. The Artillery, playing robust football, scored their third goal from a corner, Kearley heading the ball past Sturge. Each side scored one goal in the second half, and Exeter City were beaten by four goals to two.

Exeter City team:- Sturge; Robins, Fenwick; Bastin, Davidson, Morgan; Reed, Thomas, Reid, Andrews, and Russell.
