Match 18
13th January 1906
Friendly
Exmouth United (h)

EXETER CITY v EXMOUTH UNITED.

13th January 1906

Friendly match at St James's Park, January 13th. Both teams in this friendly were fairly well represented, and the attendance was very satisfactory. The ground was in a slippery condition, making good football difficult. The Grecians were the first to attack, and after eight minutes. Andrews scored with hard shot. Exmouth then broke away, and Sturge was called upon on several occasions, effecting some clever saves. Before the interval, however, he was easily beaten by Beer, and when the sides crossed over the score was one goal each. The game in the second half was played for the most part in a heavy shower of rain, which came on just after Andrews had got Exeter's second goal. Most of the spectators were driven away by the severity and length of the downpour. Reid from a free kick and then from a penalty scored two goals for the City, who won by 4 to 1.

City: Sturge; W. Wells, Fenwick; Morgan, Davidson, Brooks; Sellick, Thomas, Reid, Andrews, and Russell.

Exmouth:
Roper; Harris, Norton; McLaren, Stewart, Beer, Cowan, Harrison, and Winter. Hindle, Roberts;

    Newton Abbot v City Reserves

    The City Reserves went to Newton Abbot for a match against the Town in connection with the East Devon League, but were two men short. Robinson saved a penalty kick, taken by Stride. Aplin scored for the City, who led at the interval by that goal to nil. Only twelve minutes were played in the second half, when owing to the sodden state of the ground and a storm of rain and hail the referee abandoned the game. Shortly before his whistle blew Bennett drew the scores level with a hot shot that Robinson could not reach.
