Match 20
27th January 1906
Friendly
Millbrook Rangers (h)

CITY v MILLBROOK RANGERS.

Saturday, January 27th.

Played at St James's Park, Exeter, before 1,500 spectators. In their first attack Millbrook Rangers, playing down the slope, were checked by Bastin, who fed Reid, and after a nice run and centre by that player Andrews tested Snell with a high shot. Sellick failed to score close in after beating Wright, and at the Exeter end T. Bath was robbed by Fenwick almost on the goal line. A centre from Reid deserved a score, but Andrews's shot was too weak to cause Snell any anxiety. The Millbrook players were making the pace, and came very close to scoring on several occasions. A free kick against Mildren, for fouling, was sent behind. After Sturge had saved from Flannigan the Rangers took the lead through Setters, who netted from close range with Sturge on the ground. This was all the scoring in the first half, the Rangers leading by one goal to nil. The opening of the second half was chiefly remarkable for the weakness of the City halves. They were hardly noticeable, and made it not only easy for the Millbrook forwards, but also very difficult for their own. Sturge was conspicuous for a marvellous save from T. Bath, and Thomas, at the other end, shot behind when he had only Snell to beat. There was no life in the play of the Exeter team, and in the closing stages Millett scored high up in the corner. Sturge brought off another magnificent save from T. Bath and the match ended with the score: Millbrook Rangers 2 City nil.

Exeter City:- Sturge; W. Wells, Clarke; Fenwick, Davidson, Morgan; Reed, Sellick, Thomas, Andrews, and Reid. The only change in the Millbrook team from last week was Setters for Collins.
