Match 30
14th April 1906
Plymouth and District League
ESSA (h)
EXETER CITY V ESSA.
Plymouth and District League match.
St James's Park, Exeter, April 14th.
Exeter City. Sturge; Fenwick, Horner; Brooks, Davidson, W. Wells; Sellick, Thomas, Reid, Andrews, Russell.
Essa. Miller; Goodsell, Prior; Moyes, Woodley, Coakley; Hand cock, Brimming, Fraser, Skreech, Hodge.
The City, who have lost more matches than they have won in the Plymouth and District League, were beaten again today. Wells in the first half put in two good shots for Exeter, one missing by inches only, but Essa got away on the left wing, and a centre from Skreech was met by Handcock, who opened the scoring. Sellick scored for Exeter, but the point was disallowed for an infringement, which was not apparent to the spectators.
Half-time: Essa 1 Exeter City 0.
The second half opened very evenly, both goals being visited in turn without any tangible results until Handcock put Essa still further ahead. Handcock afterwards had to be taken off as the result of being fouled by Wells, but returned after a short absence. Thomas scored for the City just before the finish, the match ending with the result: -
Essa 2 Exeter City 1.
