Season Summary
1905-1906

SATURDAY 29th APRIL 1905,
REFLECTIONS ON THE SEASON

The season had again closed for Exeter City and proved to have been the finest one since its inaugration, Not only has the club been highly successful in its matches, it has also been largely patronised, and from all accounts a very enviable balance sheet will be produced by the Hon Treasurer at the annual meeting of the club (May 11th)

Never before in Exeter has Soccer been so much broutht to the fore as the past seson has shown, and the Officials of the City organistion are to be commended for their lively and go ahead enthusiasm, Now that Soccer is taking on in the City, it seems a logical and necessary step that Plymouth Argyle team be brought here by the Exeter City club, to play an exhibition math at St James's Park, it would certainly be a remunerative adventure St James's Park will undergo an operation during the Summer, The field is to be drained and levelled and put into thorough order, It is also proposed to build a pavilion and an enclosure in the near future, It will be interesting to study the city record for the past season,

In all 35 matches have been played, of these they have won 28, drawn 3 and lost 4, Goals scored numbered 118 against their opponents 41. In the East Devon League of which Exeter City are the Champions, 14 matches have been played winning 11, 2 drawn and only one lost, In the number of goals they were again successful, scoring 40 against 17, which is the best goal average in the league,

As to the individual scorers, the Reverend Reid scored no less than 37, closely followed by Sid Thomas, with a good 26, Sellick is next with a two figure number of 13. A useful 8 goals is the success of Davidson, while Eveleigh follows with 7, Andrews and Russell with 6 each and Ashford 4. To crack their "duck" Horner, Coles, Gallage and Morgan put in one each. Now what all the Exeter team are waiting for is the Cup and Medals.

Belmont and Torquay dropped out of the East Devon League during the  season and their results against other clubs were not counted in the final league table.
