City Reserves v Exmouth United

BARUM V EXETER CITY

Saturday, September 22nd.

Barnstaple Association team received a visit this afternoon from the Exeter City team. The visitors showed clever football and pressed for a lengthy period in the first half, their combination proving superior to the more plodding methods of Barum. Barnstaple played very gamely, however, and a fine dribble by Petter was applauded by the spectators. Then the game opened up and Turner scored for the Ever Faithful with a grand shot in the corner of the goal. Massey, after pretty combination among the Exonian forwards, shot the second goal, and then scored a very clever goal after a brilliant individual effort, in which three of the home team failed to check his run through.
The City led at half-time by 3 goals to 0, and at the finish by 7 to 0.

EXETER CITY 2ND XI v EXMOUTH UNITED.

The "Canaries," of Exmouth, making their first appearance of the season at St James's Park, beat the City Reserves by 3 goals to 2, and thoroughly deserved their success.

City Reserves:- Cann; E. Wells and Nicholls; Perrington, Kelly, and James; Ebury, West, Russell, Morgan, and T.Youlden.
Exmouth United:- G.Roper; J. Parry and C.Wilmot; S. LeMair, Warner, and Maddocks; R.Stewart, B.Taylor, C.Cowan, H.Wilson, and P.Harrison.

The score was a fair criterion of the run of the play. Though Exmouth were the superior team, the City, if they had played as well in the first half as they did in the second, might easily have won by a large score. There was a heated dispute about a shot by Morgan during the final bombardment of the Exmouth goal, the City claiming that the ball had gone over the line before it was punched out by Roper, and that a goal should have been given. It was not the only disputed decision of the referee, either. Ebury and Russell were the best of the City forwards, though Ebury was very closely watched. The United were very well served at back, and Wilmot played as well as any defender who has been seen on the Exeter ground this season. Wilson (two) and Taylor scored for Exmouth in the first half and Youlden (two) for Exeter in the second.
