2nd Devons v Exeter City:
October 20th 1906
Exeter City were below strength today against the 2nd Devon Regiment, at Devonport, Massey, Tipping, and Andrews all being absent. The team left Exeter by the 12.32 train from St Davids.
Exeter City: Smith; W.Wells, Fenwick; Muncey, Davidson, Bastin; Sellick, Reid, Thomas, Turner, and Russell.
Exeter started against the wind, and the opening play was in their favour. A breakaway by the Devons ended in Heath scoring with a fast shot from 20 yards. After Dyer had saved a couple
of long shots the Devons broke away again, Mudge scoring. The City retaliated and Reid scored after a brilliant run. A quick dribble by Thomas and Sellick was finished by a pass to Reid, whose shot hit the upright. Fenwick failed to clear and Heath scored a third goal for the Devons. Just before the interval Thomas sent the ball across to Turner, who scored for Exeter.
Half-time Devons 3 Exeter 2.
Thomas just missed the posts for Exeter, and Davidson had a shot saved by Dyer. Smith tipped over the bar from McLeod, and a cross by Mc Leod was headed into the net by Burgoyne.
Result:
2nd Devon Regiment 4
Exeter City 2.
