SOUTHERN COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH AT BOURNEMOUTH
Dorset v Devon
Played on Saturday, January 12th.
Today at Poole Park, Bournemouth, Devon played their second match in the Southern Counties Championship, Dorset providing the opposition. The Devon team was not made public until this morning, and to the surprise of East Devon clubs, was found to include only one player from Exeter and District, and that was Gunner Steele, of the 112th Battery.
There is reason to believe that Lintott, of St Luke's, was the original choice for centre half, but was unable to accept owing to his being away in London. Great surprise is expressed at the exclusion of Dickie Fenwick of Exeter City, who with the possible exception of F.W.Black, Plymouth Argyle, is easily the best left-back in Devon.
The teams were:
Dorset: Masters (Poole) Gould (Blandford) Mitchell (Portland) Fox (Whiteheads) Babb (Weymouth) Brocklehurst (Whiteheads) Keeley (Weymouth) Brown (Whiteheads) Brown (Longfleet St Mary's) Amy (Longfleet St Mary's) May (Poole)
Devon: Gunner Steele (R.F.A.) McQuade (Devon Regiment) Kingwell (Oreston Rovers) Price (Rectory) Ellis (Oreston Rovers) Simmons (Turnchapel) Rowe (Green Waves) Hill (Royal Marines) Burrows (Duke of Cornwall's) Raymond (Woodland Stars) Haynes (Plymouth Argyle)
Result: Dorset 3 Devon 1.
EXETER CITY (Ebery, Thomas, Youlden) 3
