Exeter City Reserves v Exmouth
TORPOINT v. EXETER CITY
Saturday, September 21st,
at Torpoint.
Plymouth and District League.
TORPOINT 6 EXETER CITY 0.
Exeter City were engaged today in their first Plymouth League match of the season. They had originally picked a strong eleven, but several last minute changes had to be made, with the result that a very weak team left Exeter this morning. Warner is laid up with neuralgia and could not play, while the Battery men, Coates, Chapman, and Pryce, had been forbidden to play for the City by their officers.
Torpoint: Northcote; Harris Rounsevell; Coxon, C. Reynolds, Tebb; J.Coaker, W. Coaker, Squires, Cross, F.Reynolds.
City: Ancliff; E.Wells, Fenwick; Oliver, W.Wells, Letheren; Singlehurst, Sellick, Aspey, Mudd, Eveleigh.
Torpoint registered an easy victory against a weak Exeter City team, scoring six goals without reply. Exeter's defence was sorely tried but defended well. Ancliff in the second half saved a penalty taken by J. Coaker.
Exeter City Reserves
Reserves beat Exmouth United by 2 - 1 at St James's Park.
The meeting of Exeter City and Exmouth United, under the Association code, attracted a large number of spectators to St. James's Park, Exeter on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were strongly represented, and a capital game resulted in a win for the citizens by two goals to one. The seasiders were the heavier team, but were hardly so "nippy" as their opponents, who frequently tested the Exmouth defence. The shooting of the citizens was none too good, however, while when they did get in good shots B. Harris, who played in goal in the place of Sturge, proved very safe. Exeter scored both their goals in the first half, and in neither case could the Exmouth custodian be blamed for letting them through. In the early part of the second half it looked very much as if they would increase their score, but this they failed to do, and ten minutes from the finish Toby banged the ball into the net for Exmouth, who thus lost by two goals to one. Considering the trying heat, both sides showed good form, the game being contested at a fast pace throughout.
