ORESTON ROVERS V. EXETER CITY
Saturday, October 26th.
Plymouth and District League.
Exeter City's Plymouth League team journeyed to Oreston today, where they met for the first time the local Rovers, one of the new teams in the Plymouth competition. The City's team was a very poor side, injuries and illnesses keeping several men away. The eleven which made the journey was
Ancliff; Dyer, Fenwick; W.Wells, Letheren, Warner; Singlehurst,
Eveleigh, Mudd, Aspey, and Clark.
Ancliff made several good saves from Squires, but finally had to admit defeat from that player. Letheren scored for the City soon after the resumption of play in the second half, but Oxland and Nicholson replied for Oreston Rovers, who won by three goals to one.
Friendly
City Reserves v Dartmouth
Dartmouth United, a smart team of the Torquay District League, paid their first visit to St James's Park this afternoon to meet the City's East Devon League team in a friendly.
City: Vincent; Norrington, Campbell; Goodchild, Chase, Bastin; Thomas, Hellings, Hyde, Stoneman, West.
Dartmouth:- W.J.Clay; Neary, Hopkins; Turpin, Stuart, Tucker; Shorthouse, Carder, Fisher, Cook, Derbyshire.
Dartmouth, who led by five goals to nil at half-time, had all their own way, and Exeter could do nothing right. Bastin and Hyde in the second half missed chances for Exeter, whose only effective forward was Sid Thomas. Stoneman at length scored for the City, but the Dartmouthians replied twice through Fisher and finally won the match by seven goals to one.
