Match 17
25th December 1907
Friendly
East Devon X1 (at the County Ground)
EXETER CITY v EAST DEVON
AT THE COUNTY GROUND
There was a big crowd at the County Ground on Christmas morning to witness the match between Exeter City and East Devon.
These Christmas Day matches have evidently come to stay, judging by the attendance. They supply a long felt want, and the Soccerites have the field to themselves owing to Rugby clubs being forbidden to play matches on Christmas Day. The game was only a friendly encounter, but it was, nevertheless, very good and very exciting, with the issue in doubt until the very last moment. Claude Wilson (Exmouth United) opened the scoring, and Rose, also of Exmouth, added two further goals before half-time. Eveleigh, Massey, and Fenwick (penalty) scored for the City in a thrilling second half, the final score being three all.
