EXETER CITY v GREEN WAVES

Meet at St James's Park:
Four Points at Stake

Saturday, January 25th.

Exeter City's twice postponed Plymouth League match with Green Waves was played in delightful weather at St James's Park today. Green Waves accepted the expenses of the journey from the City, and argued, in consequence, that the fixture should count for four points in the League table. Great disappointment prevailed at the fact that Jack Robinson, the old International goalkeeper, did not turn out. Reports over the cause of his absence differed considerably, but Mr. Thomas was informed that "Rob" had not been picked for the match by the
Waves management. The big Rugby attraction at the County Ground, namely Exeter v. Newport, naturally affected the attendance, but a good crowd was present, nevertheless, at the kick off. Green Waves, having lost the toss, started off, and a back kick to Bastin enabled him to place the ball in the neighbourhood of Wells. Fenwick, however, returned the leather, and Letheren led an attack by the City.

Exeter City.
W.Wells; Fenwick, Ashford; Letheren, Mudd, Banks; Sellick, Singlehurst, Eveleigh, Massey, Drew.

Green Waves.
Morton; Cudlipp, Hodkin; Glazier, Bastin, Spear; Glinn, Stokes, Chappell, Crews, Tredigo.

Referee:- Mr Green, Asst. Sec. Plymouth League.

Though having the best of the game Exeter were defeated by two goals to nil. Crews opened the scoring with a rather lucky shot after Wells had cleared a high dropping ball from Bastin, and three minutes later Chappell added a second goal with a long shot which hit the inside of a post and rebounded into the net. These goals all against the run of the play were scored midway through the second half.

East Devon Cup

  • The first round ties of the East Devon Cup were played today, but Exeter City Reserves withdrew, declining to make the journey to Lynton on the grounds that the trip would mean a big financial loss to the club.
