Match 37
25th April 1908
Plymouth and District League
Oreston Rovers (h)

EXETER CITYv ORESTON:
PLYMOUTH LEAGUE.

Saturday, April 25th.

The season of 1907-08 was wound up today at St James's Park with a Plymouth League match between the City and Oreston Rovers. The afternoon (a strange experience for the last day of the season) was cold and cheerless, and the turf heavy and greasy.

Exeter City: W.Wells; E. Wells, and Letheren; Banks, Mudd, and Oliver; Sellick, Eveleigh, Massey, Singlehurst, and Badcock.

The City won their last match by 3 goals (Massey, Eveleigh, and Singlehurst) to 2, and it was a fine finish up, and in fact one of the best performances of the season. Oreston went great guns in the blinding snowstorm of the last ten minutes, and were evidently upset at losing the two points. They can hardly grumble, however, for the City missed a penalty (Mudd shooting wide) and altogether had the best of a rattling good game. The work of the home forwards in the second half was splendid.

The players met with quite an ovation at the finish from the one thousand spectators. A good deal of sentiment also attached to the match, for this will probably be the last time Exeter will fulfil a League engagement at St James's Park with the field in its present condition. Next time they appear it will probably be a first-class ground and the Club a first-class professional one.
