Just when it seemed that Crewe's 53rd minute goal would be enough to give them a win, Exeter City's Joe Gadston turned a half chance into a great last minute equaliserThis was a gruelling encounter in the mud, City will consdier the outcome a good one. But make no mistake, Crewe could so easily have won, for they had ample ooportunities. They tried to walk the ball into the net instead of shooting. Graham Parker had a fine match and was responsible for cutting out many of the crewe raids, In attack City had three class forwards in Gadston, Alan Banks, and John Mitten. Consequently Crewe had a number of frightening moments, like the time when Lowry cleared a header from Banks off the line, Adams in the crewe goal saved brilliantly again from Banks, Crewe deserved their goal. Bob Wilson failed to reach a centre from Morrisey and Inglis was able to head a simple goal. The same player had another shot touched onto the crossbar by Wilson. With time running out Gadston popped up from nowhere to snatch a point with a smashing 20 yard drive that completely deceived Adams.
