Match 44
14th March 1970
Peterborough (a)

City Unlucky

POINT GAINED: COULD HAVE BEEN TWO

Saturday March 14th 1970.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1 EXETER CITY 1.

Badly in need of "away" points Exeter City retained the side which accounted for Colchester at St James's Park in the week for today's tough assignment at London Road, Peterborough, where the "Posh," who are still in with an outside chance of promotion, had lost only one match this season.

Peterborough:- Drewery; Potts, Noble; Conmy, Wile, Wright; Garwood, Price, Hall, Kwalikowski, Robson.

Exeter City:- Wilson; Crawford, Blain; Morris, Sharples, Parker; Giles, Banks, Gadston, Wingate, Mitten.

Subs: Moss (Peterborough) Walker (City).

Exeter, though by no means the better side, could count themselves unlucky not to have come back with two points instead of one. For they had taken the lead as early as the eighth minute, and then held out doggedly, despite being under heavy pressure at times, till fifteen minutes from the end before their defence yielded. Peterborough, whose players were barracked and slow-handclapped when they came off the field at half time, introduced Moss, substitute, in place of Garwood after the interval, and it was the deputy player who got their goal. Wingate scored Exeter's goal with a good header.

The official attendance was 5,283.
