Biographical Text
John Shadwell made over eighty league appearances for Exeter City in the seasons leading up to the Second World War having joined the club from Manchester City.
After playing for Turton he joined Manchester City in 1934 where he featured in two league matches during his two season stay at the club. He made his debut at Huddersfield in March 1935.
He signed for Exeter City in the summer of 1936, when he was described as being a ‘forceful type of player.’ He made his Grecians’ debut at Notts County in August 1936. Season 1937-38 proved to be Shadwell’s best with Exeter, missing just two league games.
Joining the Forces for the Second World War, he was an Army Corporal stationed in Germany in May 1945.
