Match 33
2nd February 1957
Northampton (h)

EXETER CITY 0
NORTHAMPTON TOWN 0
ST JAMES'S PARK:
SATURDAY FEB. 2ND.

A poor game at St James's Park, attended by a crowd of 5,000, ended as it began, goalless. Towards the end Northampton appeared to realise they would not win the match and their delaying tactics, for example, strolling to fetch the ball each time it went "dead" aroused the crowd to slow hand-clapping.
EXETER CITY: Hunter; Mitchell, Ferrier; Lackenby, Harvey, Packer; Thomas, Divers, Currie, John, Rees.
NORTHAMPTON:- Pickering; Marston, Patterson; Yeoman, Gale, Poole; Morrow, Mills, Asher, Leek, Fowler.

The game in the last 15 minutes had also become very rough, and there were more fouls than attempts to play proper football. Lackenby was admonished by the referee for a foul on Mills, while Patterson became the subject of loud barracking for continually using unfair tactics against Rees.
