Weeks without a win, something like 20 team changes in 4 matches and the increasing pressure of relegation seems to have put a lot of people into a complete doze as far as Exeter City are concerned. So it was almost with a feeling of satisfaction that Exeter supporters left St James' Park that they did not see another defeat. Shrewsbury spoiled the game with a continual offside tactic, but they achieved their object and got away with a point, City managed to get through their defence on a couple of occasions but were stopped with fine saves by Boswell, City also missed a couple of good chancesThe new Stuttard defensive plan designed to stop the flow of goals against, worked, but at the expense of the attack, where City again failed. The dropping for the first time since joining City of Alan Banks was a mistakeHis tearaway style might have beaten the packed Shrewsbury defence, City should have scored in the first half, when Ray Keeley, with only Boswell to beat, blasted over the bar. Shrewsbury were a poor side, who had an equally poor forward line, Their finishing was a as bad as City's was,

For a professional side that included nine players with Football League experience the City performance against Weymouth was abysmal, Showing only infrequent signs of quality, the Exeter forwards were outplayed by the visiting defence. Three goals in a six minute burst from Weymouth spelt the end for City, The first and third came from Hannigan, whilst May shot the other from 25 yards, Dowsett netted the fourth in the second half, while Exeter's goal came from Alan Banks seconds before the interval.
