This was soccer at its most unpredictable. Swindon spent all the first half on the attack and found themselves a goal down, Exeter spent all the second half attacking and saw Swindon draw level ten minutes from time. An almost gale force wind swept down the pitch throughout the game, it assisted the visiting attack before the interval, as City struggled to get the ball out of their own half, But for some good saves from Shearing and Swindon's bad finishing, Exeter could well have been in some troubleLey blocked one shot from Rogers on the line. Five minutes from half time City scored a shock goal. Banks carved the chance from midfield with a perfect pass that sent Curtis racing through on his own. The inside left took his chance immediately as he ran 25 yards to drive low past Downsborough

The second half was the story in reverse, This time it was Exeter doing all the attacking and making all the mistakes in front of goalThen ten minutes from time Swindon won a corner and Lowton headed very well deserved equaliser. On their right wing City had the new man from Carlisle making his debut, Jimmy Blain, he worked hard and made more than a fair contribution to the game.

Unbeaten
in eight previous Western League games, Glastonbury continued on their winning sequence against a polished Exeter team which contributed some good football to an attractive game. In an evenly fought first half Glastonbury scored the only goal through inside right White. Exeter were unlucky when Wilf Carter drove a free kick against the crossbar. But in the second half Glastonbury were definitely the mastersMan of the match Brian Burr scored two splendid goals and only the brilliance of Alan Barnett who made superb saves from Hatcher and Quinlan restricted the winning margin,

FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL SUPPORTERS.

The following message from secretary Dick Miller appeared in the programme for the Exeter City versus Swindon Town game: Everyone here this afternoon will have read in the National Press of the bad behaviour and even hooliganism of persons who actually believe themselves to be supporters of their local clubs. In fact such people bring much discredit to our wonderful game and should in my opinion be banned for life from attending football matches, At St James Park we have always been proud of the conduct of our supporters, but more recently I have been concerned about some of the behaviour experienced here. Such as throwing toilet rolls, slow handclapping etc, Let me give fair warning to those poeple inclined towards such action, that the Police have strict instructions to remove from the ground anybody who is seen to throw a toilet roll onto the pitch, As for those so called supporters who begin slow handclapping, let me put it to them it is one of the easiest things in the world to support a winning club, A true supporter is one who gives his team encouragement when they really need it. How about all of you giving the lads your vocal support this afternoon ?"
