Exeter City could have beaten Swindon Town, This was no end of season game, for Swindon were all out for a win to finish in the top four of the Third Division, One thing is certain, City need to do a lot of rebuilding for next season, they fielded a youthful side, average age 22, but youth alone will not do. Ray Elliott, Ray Keeley, and Bruce Stuckey struggled to stay in the game for any length of time but they lacked the experience to help themselves or each other, In the 17th minute Jack Kennedy flighted over a perfectly placed free kick for George McLean to deftly turn into the top corner of the net, Swindon equalised in the 35th minute when East got up to a Weaver centre and headed in, Within a minute of the second half they were in front, Brown turned in a Rogers centre. After that City were forced back on defence and lived dangerously at times but clung on, getting their equaliser through McLean, So City grabbed their last Third Division point, it is going to be a long hard Summer at St James' Park. They have to model a side that can get them promotion again as soon as possible. For those who say it is better to be top of the Fourth Division than bottom of the Third, Well, they have obviously never had a taste of the Football League's lowest division!
