Two of City's goals came from George McLean, Two good goals with the sort of headers that a centre forward dreams about. Those ought to be the start of a big comeback by McLean for what he was lacking in confidence and that is just what these goals should have given him. The win over Gillingham who had not given away a goal in the previous four games was well deserved, The City played more than their fair share of fast, hard football on a day when conditions were more suited to mud wrestling. The defence looked equal to Gillingham, which had the best record in the Third Division and the attack made three goal attempts to the Kent sides one, Every goal in the game came from a corner and although his was the softest of all, no one deserved it more than Jack Kennedy who gave a very polished performance, Most important of all, City seem to have built up a team of triers and fighters who are going no stop for a whole watch instead of playing in patches, Kennedy scored in the 11th minute, McLean adding another in the 72nd, Gillingham pulled a goal back through Miller in the 82nd minute, but six minutes later McLean scored his second goal of the game and City's third,

THE SECOND JACK KENNEDY.

The signing of Jack Kennedy from Charlton Athletic has struck a cord in the memories of several Exeter City supporters, for he is the second player of that name to have appeared for the club, The other Jack Kennedy was not a Scotsman but a Geordie, City signed him from Tranmere Rovers in 1932 and he made 14 Third Division appearances in the 1932-33 season. The following season he played only once in the first team before being transferred to Torquay United.

If confidence is really going to be the secret for Exeter City then this success over star studded Slovan Bratislava should boost that confidence sky high, The Czech side included six players of International experience and they showed their class with intricate inter passing and running off the ball. But their style also meant plenty of space and opportunity for City to play some football themselves and they took great advantage of it, Things began to warm up after City's second goal, the pace got hotter, the tackling had more bite, and the City had more edge particularly in their finishing, really it boiled down to City forcing their own pace and lasting it betterCity's man of the match was winger turned defender George Ley who was one of the most polished players on the field. City were four goals up, before Medvid scored a consolation goal 12 minutes from the end. Bruce Stuckey scored his first goal for the first team in the 39th minute, George McLean added another two minutes later. Hrivnak scored an own goal after 55 minutes and Jimmy Blain added number four in the 75th minute. Exeter City had to guarantee the Czech side £650, so the attendance was a little disappointing and will have to improve if further friendlies are to be arranged,

CITY'S IRISH PAIR.
Exeter City were hoping to include their two new signings Pat Cavanan and Tommy Sweetman in their side to face Slovan Bratislava at St James Park, to give them their first showing in front of the City supporters, However after playing their last game for Home Farm on Saturday in a vital cup tie they were not able to travel to Exeter in time to make their City debuts,

THURSDAY 9th DECEMBER 1965.

Tommy Sweetman signed for Exeter City today from Home Farm, City's second Irish signing is expected to arrive in Exeter early next week."
