Fresh from their five goal win over Brentford, City found themselves on the wrong side of a goal rush where Hull City were 4-0 up in the first 15 minutes. The usual capable City defence could nothing about it. After only 30 seconds Chilton knocked a Henderson centre into the net, Further goals followed in quick succession, Henderson (6 mins), Chilton (10 mins), and Henderson again after 16 minutes were the scorers, City held out until 17 minutes into the second half when Houghton delivered a 25 yard blockbuster which Peter Shearing never saw for Hull's fifth goal, and although Alan Banks scored for Exeter after 80 minutes, Chilton completed his hat-trick with a header just before full time, City were not nearly so bad as the scoreline suggests but they had precious little opportunity to show their attacking worth, Banks did break clear on one occasion to force a brilliant save out of Swan. Few defences would have withstood the Hull onslaught and it is doubtful whether City will have such a torrid time again this season. The best thing that can be said about City is that they did not give up trying even though some of their efforts were sadly misguided and a lot of energy was wasted for nothing.

WESTERN COUNTIES FLOODLIT LEAGUE.

EXETER CITY 2-0 POOLE TOWN
City team
Barnett; McDonald, Cavanan; Peapell, Mitchell, Buckingham; Elliott, Stuckey, Riding,
Curtis, Tolchard,

Scorers:
Exeter Elliott, Riding.

In spite of dominating almost the entire match the City got very little reward for their efforts in the way of goals. Exeter's midfield play was beyond reproach especially in the second half which developed into a shooting practice for the City forwards, but they were up against a resolute Poole Town defenceAlan Riding put City in front after 36 minutes, and Ray Elliott added a second goal five minutes from the end,
