CONFIDENT DISPLAY FOILS GRIMSBY

GRIMSBY TOWN 1:

EXETER CITY 1:
Shearing; Smyth, Ley; Peapell, Harvey, Buckingham; Stuckey, Banks, McLean, Kennedy, Blain.

Scorers:
Grimsby: Ross
Exeter: Harvey,

Attendance: 7,514,

Grimsby allowed ex-Mariner George McLean to fool out of a game in which a team contesting for the top position of Division Three should have walked it, McLean harrassed his old pals to such an extent that centre half Keith Jobling was goaded into a completely uneccessary penalty a minute before half time and Keith Harvey hit home the spot kick, For literally 70 minutes Grimsby were struggling in the face of stern and uncompromising play by a useful City side, The floodgates of Grimsby's frustration were unleashed and the tough little men from Exeter found themselves floundering and mistiming their tackles, Grimsby might have done better if they had cut out the pretty stuff and played a more open game, Attack after attack came to grief at the feet and head of Harvey, Ross got a 70th minute equaliser for Grimsby that looked to be offside but the City had the confidence to attack again, instead of falling back and possibly starting to struggle and in the end were well worth the point and they almost snatched two when McLean's shot rebounded off the bar.

WESTERN LEAGUE.
EXETER CITY 0 DORCHESTER TOWN 1

Barnett; Goad, Fulton; Mitchell, McDonald, Balson; Rees, Curtis, Sweetman, Cavanan, Copp

Scorer:
Dorchester: Way,

A mighty 20 yard drive from left half Way twenty minutes from the end gave a surprise win to lowly placed borchester Town, who had previously taken only seven points from 17 matches. They were somewhat lucky to take both points for Exeter had most of the play. But City missed a hatful of chances, and even a quick reshuffle of the forward line in the second half could not producve the goal getting touch, Dorchester too missed their chances until Way beat Barnett with a fine shot.

PRACTICE MATCH

ST, LUKES COLLEGE v EXETER CITY RESERVES

Barnett; Fulton, McDonald; Mitchell, Anderson, Cavanan; Rees, Carter, Curtis, Tolchard, Riding.

FRIDAY 14th JANUARY 1966.

TRANSFER LIST SURPRISE.

Exeter City have started working on their retained list about 5 months before the end of the season, Today they placed four players on offer to join Dermot Curtis and Des Anderson on the transfer list. They are Les McDonald, Bryce Fulton, Jeff Tolchard and the biggest surprise of the lot, Pat Cavanan, who only signed from Home Farm a few weeks ago, City are obviously not going to keep these players for next season so they have given them a far better chance to avoid the Summer transfer tangle and get another club,
