City raced into a blinding drizzle and snatched a 30th minute lead with a snap volley from Alan Banks who slammed in a pass from Bruce StuckeyExeter deserved it on all round consistency. They rarely allowed Bournemouth set up a dangerous raid. Bumstead had a goal disallowed for an offside decision and Coughlin hit the wrong side of the bar with a header. A second goal almost came City's way when Best punched the ball away from George McLean. It dropped to Jimmy Blain but his shot was cleared off the line by Gater, City were full of new ideas, new methods, and new formations, and as a result the best is coming from everyone and no part of the team is firing on half cylinders, Blain had a magnificent match, In attack he was a fluid link and in dfence he was an extra wing half or full back, Whenever and where he was needed Blain was on the spot. In the hit and miss department, Jack Kennedy, Bruce Stuckey, and George McLean were all unlucky not to score, Peter Shearing made three brilliant saves, A good all round performance to earn City's fourth win in five matches,

Centre of attention in this game were City's two Irish signings making their home debuts. For Tommy Sweetman it was a great success, he showed himself to be a tireless worker and a dangerous forward, capping a good performance by scoring Exeter's 30th minute goal, But for his colleague Pat Cavanan the match was marred by injury, he hurt his back and didn't play at all in the second half. Atrocious conditions put quality football out of the question but both sides put up a lively performance and a draw was a fair result,
