Scorers: Walsall MiddletonExeter Banks, Attendance: 9,478,

Exeter City's battle against relegation received a useful boost when they took a point from sixth

in the table Walsall in a tough encounter, A well take goal from Alan Banks after 23 minutes provided

just the incentive City needed, Although Middleton equalised in the 65th minute with a fine header and the City defence faced a battering as Walsall pressed for a winner, It was a well deserved point, Banks was undoubtedly City's hero, taking his chance superbly and always proving a handful for the Walsall defence. His only slip however proved costly to City when he shot over the bar in the 82nd minute with only Carling to beat, Exeter called on substitute Jack Kennedy to replace the limping Vilf Carter, Centre half Keith Harvey kept a tight rein on the Walsall centre forward Kirbyand Des Anderson played his part well in containing Walsall in the second half. City went to pinch a point and they did it, but Walsall should have really shown more fright,

WESTERN LEAGUE
CITY RESERVES 2: FROME TOWN 0:

Scorers:
Exeter McLean, Riding.

Exeter completed an Easter double over Frome Town, but it was a slow and uninspiring game after City had promised great things with two goals in the first 16 minutes, but the game fell away and City were as much to blame as Frome. There!was never really any doubt as to the final result, although Frome came more into the game in the second half, Exeter's trouble was that they seemed to take everything too casually. George McLean gave City the lead in the 5th minute. Dermot Curtis had his penalty kick saved eight minutes later, but Alan Riding made it 2-0 with a fine individual run from just inside his own half.

TUESDAY 12th APRIL 1966.

RIDING CONFIRMS REQUEST.

Alan Riding, 21, Exeter City's part time forward has confirmed that he has asked to be placed on the transfer list, He said he did not seem to be making the first team grade with Eexter and he feels he could elsewhere. He would prefer to stay in League football, but will go non-league if he can stay in the Exeter area. Riding works at the County Hall in Exeter and would prefer a club near home.
