Swansea were well pleased that their long coach journey was rewarded with only their second away point after 11 games, Not pleased with themselves were City who disappointed their largest attendance of the season by squandering numerous chances. It looked as if City were in for their highest score of the year when they swamped Swansea right from the start and Alan Banks burst through in the 5th minute for a splendid goal. But in 45 seconds Swansea had equalised through left winger Evans from a move masterminded by Allchurch. If that was the end of the scoring, it certainly was not the end of the excitement. Swansea had two good shooting chances in the first half, but Todd and Allchurch put their shots wide, Most of the action was in Swansea's goalmouthThe Welshmen have one of the worst defensive records in the Football League and it was easy to see why. They packed their penalty area tighter than a tin of sardines with 6 and sometimes 10 men. They did not work together and City could not find a way through the packed ranks.
- Exeter City reserves Western League fixture at Andover was postponed becuase of heavy frost
Exeter City's return match at Swansea Town was called off because of a heavy frost at Vetch Field, The City team had already left by coach and got as far as Gloucester, where they stopped for lunch, before they heard the newsThey still did not arrive back in Exeter until the middle of the evening though, becuase they were held up by fog.
FRIDAY 31st DECEMBER 1965.
Exeter City have no reason to be complacent about their position just under halfway in the table, Though teams have found it difficult to score at St JamesPark, the Grecians themselves have found just as wanting in attackgreatest disappointment in loss of form is Alan Banks. Since his return from injury he has been but a shadow of his former self, Newcomer Jack Kennedy from Charlton Athletic could provide the long term answer to the goal dearth, but undoubtedly an in form Banks would add to the power. To some extent George McLean and Jimmy Blain are in the same position. Both are experienced capable performers who are just not clicking at the moment.
