Exeter City started strongly enough with plenty of movement and plenty of fight, but they missed several good chances early on, then became more of a shambles than a side in a scratchy second half, There is no overall excuse, for the City have had finishing faults and midfield troubles all season. Cecil Smyth and Ray Harford played well, Everyone worked as hard as they possibly could without getting the necessary result. Peterborough took a 34th minute lead when Deakin shot into an empty net from a Conmy centre, which was nodded onto him by Gould, The Peterborough left winger, Pulley, kept the City full backs Smyth and Les McDonald on the hop but Peter Shearing always managed to clear, Deakin scored his and Peterborough's second goal seven minutes from time, when he ran onto a pass from Byrne and sidefooted the ball into the net from close range, Peterborough should have had an easy task against struggling Exeter City but they lacked cohesion as a side.

ARGYLE BID FOR CITY MEN.
Exeter City's top goalscorer Alan Banks and goalkeeper Peter Shearing look like being transferred to Plymouth Argyle for a joint fee of around £8,000, The two clubs have more or less agreed terms and it is now up to the players who will meet Plymouth manager Derek Ufton today. Argyle also made a bid for centre half Ray Harford but City turned this down, Both players feel that it would be a good move for them, Plymouth are likely to agree that they will not sign for them until the end of the season, as Exeter need them both in their fight against relegation, Argyle have been interested in Banks for some time and have been watching several of City's matches recently, At one time there were strong rumours that Exeter fancied Argyle players, John Newman and Mike Reeves, but there has been no mention of any possible player exchange deal involving Banks and Shearing,
