EXETER CITY 1,

Attendance 10,540,
City leading through a 17th minute Banks header from an opening carved by Carter were under plenty of pressure, They seemed to be holding Gillingham as well as they had during the first half with plenty of cover and the Kent side struggled to get even one shot, Instead of working the ball away as they had done earlier, the City made it harder for themselves by giving big boot clearances, Gillingham came much more into the game and finally in the 70th minute an equaliser from Gibbs was the outcome from close in, Exeter showed a new all round mobility and strength, They were a massed quick tackling defensive unit at one moment and a well backed attacking force the next, Everyone in the City side worked hard, they had to or the system would have broken down, Shearing made several good saves in a hectic last ten minutes of the first half, City centre forward McLean started off by giving the Gillingham defence a real chase around but he lacked service,
EX CITY PLAYER DIES.
Former Exeter City footballer, Mr Jack Angus, of Summerway, Exeter has died at the age of 55, He first came to the West Country from Scotland in the early 30s, He took part in the club's great run to the sixth round of the F,A, Cup in 1931, Some of his best performances came in the cup, including two memorable displays against Sunderland, After leaving the City, he took a job with British Railways.
CITY SIGN MacDONALD AGAIN.
Exeter City manager Ellis Stuttard announced today that he has re-signed 28 year old fullback Les MacDonald, who was given a free transfer at the end of last season, MacDonald who came from Portsmouth eight years ago, was a regular first team player until last term. During the summer he had offers to play abroad and was short listed for the player/managers job at Yeovil Town, Mr Stuttard hopes MacDonald will be useful to lend his experience to a very young City reserve side and will prove to be a useful player to cover for the first team.
