Like so many games this season, City lost the points because of wasted scoring chances, There were no excuses for aisses by Alan and Jack Kennedy, or for the penalty kick that Keith Harvey put wide. This was bottom of the table Oldham Athletic's first win for three months, They took the lead in the 20th minute through Blore and scored a second in the 40th minute when Towers found the net. McLean gave City some hope when he scored two minutes from the interval, Twenty minutes into the second half Quixall added a third goal for Oldham and that was that for City. They did not lose because they were outplayed, they lost because they could not acore, True they peppered in more shots than usual, but when it came to the close in stuff that really matters, they did not have the finish, It is nothing new of course, Had City taken evan thirty per cent of their chances during their recent run, they would be pushing towards the top of the division nowMost effective player in the Exeter side was Kennedy, but he had little supportCity must face a tough struggle before the end of the season,

Western League leaders Welton Rovers showed their champion strength in this gameUnbeaten this season they looked in danger of losing their record when Dermot Curtis made the movement that led to Wilf Carter heading Exeter into a 30th minute leadBut Welton struck back and within three minutes were on level terms when Ian Henderson weaved through the defence and dribbled around goalkeeper Alan Barnett, before half time Welton took the lead through a cracking shot by Roy Watts, The rest of the match was certainly hard fought in bad conditions - a heavy pitch and driving rain, City levelled 20 minutes from the end when Curtis scored from the penalty spot.
