Against a Rangers side that did not look likely to score, City did not show enough determination, Some of the Exeter players need a lot of sharpening up. Two men who should not come under fire from these criticisms are McLean and Rees, Once again McLean got an impossibly poor service, he spent most of the game chasing aimless balls from City's defence, Rees got a better service than McLean and showed plenty of effort. It is fair comment to point out that from the amount of play that they had, the City should have been able to produce something better than the one direct shot from McLean which Springett had to 513, save In defence City were tight enough, Fulton worked very efficiently as the cover man for everyone and though he had a couple of slices of luck Shearing did more than enough to deserve them and it was no coincidence that the defence was better with Smyth back in the side, Exeter did not have the smooth build up and accurate passes of the Rangers side but for all their nice looking play, the visitors still did not have enough real bite in attack, Although Exeter kept their record of having no goals scored against them at St James's Park this season, the fans and no doubt manager Ellis Stuttard are more worried about the lack of goals being scored,

ELLIS WAITS FOR NEWS.

CITY SIGN BUCKINGHAM BUT NOT MORAN.
Exeter City signed wing half Colin Buckingham from Plymouth Argyle at lunch time today, but City's hopes of signing Jimmy Moran from Workington have been squashed. The player has turned down the move to St James's Park, Buckingham was signed for a fee of £2,000 and in getting him Ellis Stuttard has re-signed one of his own discoveries, He was the first man to recognise Buckingham's potential whilst he was manager at Plymouth Argyle and he gave the local born man his chance in football. A former groundstaff boy, Buckingham became a full time profesional in 1961 and has made 15 League appearances.
