Match 14
8th October 1955
Swindon Town (a)

Southern League
Hastings (h)

Saturday, October 8th 1955.
EXETER CITY 1 (Buckle)

Half-time No Score. Attendance 6,783.

Out of football since the start of the season because of his refusal to accept the terms offered by Bristol Rovers, Geoffrey Fox has been transferred to Swindon, and had his first match for them today. He captained the side.
SWINDON:- Burton; Hunt, Fox; McShane, Hudson, Williams; Riseborough, Gibson, Onslow, Micklewright, Edwards.
REFEREE:- Mr B.M.Rickett, of Newport.
EXETER CITY:- Hunter; Walton, Mitchell; Davey, Harvey, Murphy; Simpson, Worthington, Burke, John, Buckle.

Exeter City's second win on the trot was nothing like as impressive as the one at Watford last week. They tried hard to play the same kind of football but only in spasms did it succeed. Too often the passing was too close, too delicate and too inaccurate. In defence Mitchell was a great inspiration at left-back, and Harvey was once more in good form at centre-half. Of the forwards Simpson and Buckle were the most dangerous, and it was Buckle who scored the winning goal just before the end after a mistake by the Swindon goalkeeper.

Southern League
Exeter City Reserves v Hastings

Parr, who was injured in Exeter City's first game of the season, took his place in the reserve team match v Hastings today. Doyle, another injury victim recently, turned out at centre half.

City Reserves:- Kelly; Foley, Parr; Packer, Doyle, D.Major; Thomas, Iggleden, Sword, Robinson, Rees.
Hastings United:- Ball; J.Thompson, Chadwick; Peacock, Boon, Green; Taylor, Burgess, Asher, Parks, P.Thompson. Referee:- Mr L.R.M.Cornish, of Bridgwater.

Three minutes before half-time Parks gathered a pass from P.Thompson and shot past Kelly. Burgess increased the lead. Sword, who had been injured before the interval, pluckily remained on the field in the second half and was unlucky with two good attempts, but Burgess scored a third for Hastings ten minutes from time.
