Coventry City's clever direct football and teamwork was good enough to send a panicky, hesitant Exeter defence crumbling and gain full revenge for their surprise F.A.Cup defeat by City, They were a team swinging the ball about rapidly and accurately on the heavy ground, tackling keenly, marking closely, full of the will to win, collect City were a shambling collection of individuals saved from a heavy defeat only by the brilliant displays of Harvey and Hunter, Coventry had taken a 2-0 lead both scored by Uphill before Rees who was undoubtedly the City's best forward scored City's first goal with a header from Grinney's free kick. In the second half Grinney's corner kick went to Murphy who scored ten minutes after the interval, The young Crediton vinger showed plenty of promise and the mistakes he made were mostly due to over eagerness and inexperienceAlthough he gave the passes for City's two goals he had no chance to provide another equaliser to Coventry's winner scored by McPherson four minutes from tme. That goal gave Coventry a thoroughly deserved win and City their third successive League defeat,
Changes will have to be made particularly the bringing back of the flu casualties Davey and Doyle.

EXETER CITY RESERVES 2.

WORTHINGTON SNAP GOALS
Well done, Fred Worthington. Your quick-fire shooting earned a point at Merthyr where the City Reserves came close to going under in the Welsh mud. With Merthyr often monopolising play on the grease pot ground, it was the wide-awake-Worthington at inside-right dealing out the 2-2 verdict with two snap goals. He made the most of few chances to come his way during this match when Exeter were made to fight desperately throughout. The goal-hungry Merthyr youngsters blazed away in valiant efforts for a badly needed win which almost came off. In the overworked City rearguard, Norman Packer enhanced his reputation at centre-half, while Foley and Roberts also did well. A precision centre from Roy White-side enabled Worthington to snatch the lead after 14 minutes only for Merthyr to equalise through Williams. Then keeper John Lobbett inade a brilliant save from Welsh winger Davies but the greasy ball slithered through his hands for Toft to put Merthyr in front. It looked like a Merthyr win at last before the wily Worthington again weaved through to complete the scoring with his second success.
